Aspen Velo has proudly served the Aspen community since 1984. We specialize in high-quality electric bike rentals and are located just steps from the Rio Grande Trail. With decades of cycling experience and deep local roots, we’re here to help you explore the valley in comfort and style.
Our Story
Aspen Velo was founded in 1984 by Michael Wampler, who began renting road and mountain bikes to locals and tourists. Like many, he arrived in the valley in the 70s, fell in love, and never left. The name Velo, which is French for bike, reflects Michael’s lifelong passion for cycling and the Tour de France.​

In 2017, his son Lucas returned to the Roaring Fork Valley after some time in Texas. Born and raised in Aspen, Lucas encouraged his dad to try electric bikes in 2018. The response was immediate. By 2020, the fleet was fully converted to e bikes, and Lucas officially took over as Michael rode into retirement.​
Today, Aspen Velo remains a family run shop with a true passion for helping locals and visitors experience the best of Aspen on two wheels.

Stella prefers sunbathing to pedaling, but she’s still a proud member of the team. She’s friendly and mellow, though not the biggest fan of small children, so please use caution when approaching. She hopes you enjoy your ride around Aspen... and maybe offer a little scratch behind the ears on your way out.
